UCR Financial Aid is dedicated to assisting UCR students and happy to assist you with financing your education. Your process will begin with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). After applying for the FAFSA, the Financial Aid office will determine your financial eligibility by computing the difference between the established UCR expenses for the academic year and your "expected family contribution" (EFC), which is determined upon completion of the FAFSA. Your EFC is the number used in determining your eligibility to receive financial aid funds.
Once your financial need has been determined, UCR will offer you a financial aid award package which may contain grant, loan, work-study or scholarship funds. For many of the Guardian Scholars, the Chafee Grant may also be included (see below).

To be considered for financial aid, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year. Be sure to submit your FAFSA by March 2 in order to be considered for the maximum aid available.
Think before you borrow and do not borrow more than you need. Carefully monitor the total amount you borrow and the repayment requirements that you will have when you finish your education. Interest-free emergency loans of up to $500 are available through UCR Financial Aid for registered students on a first-come, first-served basis. You may borrow no more than three times per academic year. A student photo ID is required and current quarter fees must be paid. Repayment is due within 30 days or by the end of the quarter (whichever comes first). For more information, contact UCR Financial Aid.
